I'm thinking about buying a Vespa or Piaggio scooter. I know a lot of pros and cons, but would like to hear more about the actual driving safety (do motorists see you, how is it at night, etc) and how long they last, whether I have to get a motorcycle license or not... Just general information! Thanks.

  1. Vespas are cheap to buy and to run. And they run forever.

On a Harley you break your belt you stop traveling. Vespas have no belt.

Also, vespas all have gears, it's only the very last models that have gone automatic.

    I'd get one but a second hand one from 1985, a PX150 or a PX200.

    Cheap, reliable and cheerful.

  2. Vespas and Piaggios are nice, but you'll pay a lot for the brand name.

  3. Those are two top of the line scooters will last forever if  you maintain them right. 50cc are legal every just about with a regular driving license and bigger requires a motorcycle license. People will be able to see you and at night you might want one of the reflective vests that scooter  people are wearing now. A lot of the negative things you hear about  scooters are about cheap imports and these toys that kids think they can  get away with riding.   If it turn out that those two are to  rich for you look at Kymco. They only scooters rated higher are Piaggio and Vespa. Kymco is rated  higher than all of the j*p   brands. But their price is lower than the  Piaggio and Vespa  as well as the j*p scooters. They are more reliable than a Honda.

  4. 50cc Vespa is legal in most states without a motorcycle license.

Anything bigger requires a motorcycle license, flat fact.

You will be invisible on any scooter, and you have to ride it like that.

They are fine at night, the lights have improved a lot over the years.

Scooters are a great way to motorcycle, without the shifting.

Vespas and Piaggios are designed for a lifetime of reliable use, and you pay for it!

    Good luck to you!
