  1. depends upon the radio.....

not saying the kind of transmitter hurts.... most commercial stations run hardline coax off the back of the amplifier.

most part 15 units have antennas attached internally or externally that are just screwed or locked in....

  2. You need a transmitter. The antenna is at the end of the feedline from the transmitter. There are small FM transmitters used for coupling the audio from your MP3 player to your car radio. These generally run a few milliwatts, transmit out to a range of 20-30 feet and use the connecting cords as the antenna. If you are talking your own pirate radio station, then you need to assemble a few things. You need an audio source, a mixer, a transmitter and an antenna. In essence, you need everything a commercial radio or TV station has, but not quite so big. Any amateur radio operator has this kind of equipment on hand, but there are certain rules an amateur radio operator has to live by, such as no music or copyrighted material and the frequencies are limited to bands set aside just for amateur radio use. I have a FM transmitter which is rated at 5 watts. With 5 watts, I could easily transmit out to a range of maybe 35 miles from where I live. I live on a hillside facing east, toward Seattle. I can tune this transmitter to be within the regular FM radio range and set up my own pirate radio which would cover the whole of metro Seattle, but I don't, because it is against the law for me to transmit there. If you are interested in purchasing a FM transmitter and matching antenna, look into Ramsey Electronics at:

The transmitters they sell are not exactly cheap...

  3. To the transmitter.
