Owner Bob McNair admits Houston Texans triumph saved jobs of coach Gary Kubiak, GM Rick Smith-NFL News
Houston Texans’ owner, Bob McNair, has admitted that the jobs of coach, Gary Kubiak and general manager, Rick Smith, were on the line during the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season and only the unexpected triumph by the team saved them from being
fired.
Both officials had been under pressure from fans and some of the game commentators throughout the last season, and the owner said to be definite about their release until the team won the American Football Conference (AFC) South title and qualified for the
playoffs, for the first time in their history.
This pleased the owner who then decided against parting ways with the officials, and both of them are coming back into the 2012 NFL season.
McNair said:
“I think they’ve done an outstanding job. I’m pleased with ‘em, and if that wasn’t the case, we wouldn’t be extending ‘em."
The owner also said to be working out new deals for the officials, and separate round of negotiations with them is going to start in near future.
It is for the first time that the Texans are coming out into 2012 season as the Super Bowl contenders.
Texans will face the daunting tasks of improving from or at least maintaining previous year’s level of performance, which was remarkable given that the team had to face too many injury problems.
At one point, they were quarterback-thin and the slumping offence became a cause of concern for the managers. They, however, overcame the problems successfully.
Texans have now confirmed their main quarterback, Matt Schaub returning from a foot injury to join the squad for offseason activities.
Furthermore, T.J. Yates will also be joining the squad for his second professional season. He was the starting quarterback last year and successfully helped the team progress through the second leg of the season.
The team also signed a pair of veteran QBs, Jake Delhomme and Jeff Garcia, last year and so far they are confirmed to be available for the upcoming season.
So, the team has a strong offensive line for the upcoming season and can potentially qualify for the playoffs again.
