Owner Jerry Crawford plans Dullahan’s journey of becoming a super-star
Jerry Crawford of Donegal Racing, who owns Dullahan and O'Prado Again, is setting his sights on the biggest prize of all and, is considering taking his runners abroad to compete in the Dubai World Cup at Meydan in 2013.
Jerry Crawford told the media that:
"Our goal is to send Dullahan and O'Prado Again to the Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) as an entry."
The owner seems confident in the ability of his runners, especially Dullahan, as he stated that they are in good form and, can race on synthetic tracks.
He further stated that:
"You've got to dream big, right? And by the way, those two horses are pretty good on the Polytrack (a synthetic surface) the last I checked."
Dullahan, who is under the training of Dale Romans, has landed some impressive victories and, is now on his way to Monmouth Park to compete in the Grade 1 Haskell Invitational on 29th July, 2012, where he will face the Kentucky
Derby and Preakness Stakes’ runner-up, Bodemeister.
Crawford believes that the three-year-old can defeat Bodemeister, and make his way to the top. The owner’s confidence comes from the fact that, Dullahan has succeeded in two Grade 1 races.
With rider Kent Desormeaux on his back, he defeated Hansen in the Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland on 14th April, 2012, over a distance of 1 1/8 miles.
Last season, the son of Even the Score, out of mare Mining My Own, prevailed in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity Stakes in October, 2011, where he successfully completed the 1 1/16 miles in 1 minute and 43.12 seconds.
He destroyed the Breeders’ Futurity Stakes field and, claimed the victory over the Peter Miller trained, Majestic City, while Optimizer, finished third.
Crawford also emphasised on the fact that his colt is worthy of achieving the Eclipse Award as champion three-year-old colt as he commented:
"The fact is, we've won two grade Is and I'll Have Another has won three," Crawford commented: "I'm excited about taking Dullhan there (to Monmouth) and giving him another chance of being 3-year-old of the year."
Dale Romans, the trainer, said that, if Dullahan fails to deliver in the Haskell Invitational, the other option is the Secretariat Stakes, which is also a Grade 1 race.
