Owner Jim Irsay continues rash cleansing of Indianapolis Colts, fire two more coaches – NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ staff is yet to have respite from the rash cleansing drive of their employer, Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, as he is reported to have fired two more coaches, confirming his intentions of sparing no one in his so called campaign of rebuilding
his team with next season on his mind.
Including those who were fired during the course of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season, the management has so far parted ways with as many as 13 co-ordinators, in addition to letting their head coach, Jim Caldwell, go last week.
As of last week, the team had only nine coaches left against its full strength of 20 at a time, and with firing of two more only seven of them are available now. Given the pace the firing drive continues at, they too are very much in the line of fire.
The coaches who were fired on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, were the tight end co-ordinator, Ricky Thomas. His colleague, assistant offensive line staff, Ron Prince, was too let go by Irsay. He has so far sacked all those managers who had worked with their
quarterback, Peyton Manning.
Irsay has gone straight into massive overhauling following the failure of his team in the regular season. All commentators and game followers had expected changes in Colts; no could have guessed their scale and pace.
In one go, the owner has sacked his vice chairman, general manager, head coach and 13 assistant coaches, retaining only few people from the era of his former coach, Jim Caldwell.
Colts now have a new GM, new head coach and possibly new co-ordinators. Whether they will have new quarterback as well, the future will bear witness to it. The focus is already on Peyton Manning with all sides waiting a decision from Jim Irsay.
Despite that the owner has tried to convince football community that the changes he has introduced to his side was a necessity of the rebuilding process, they are likely to have a negative outfall on the outfit in the longer run.
With so much uncertainty and less surety of jobs, the team management might not be able to attract well qualified people for the open slots and given the fact that the environment inside team is not as conducive they are unlikely give hundred per cent.
The massive reshuffling, which has not touched the squad yet, is going to have some impact on the players. Colts are already poor in their talent. The calibre and game skills of a majority of their players was exposed in absence of their regular QB, Peyton
Manning, and with so much hustle bustle of firing it will be difficult for new managers to attract talented players.
