Owner Jim Irsay in talks with QB Peyton Manning to seek amicable solution for Indianapolis Colts – NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, has hoped to reach a deal with the quarterback, Peyton Manning, before the March 08, 2012 deadline of the $28 million bonus payment to him, disclosing that both parties have been in talks on the issue and other aspects
more this month than they had been in any other month of 2012.
Hoping for the continuation of his talks with the player, the owner said that they have discussed the possibility of finding a solution to the issue that is acceptable and workable for both parties.
“We've talked more in recent weeks than we have in most Februarys," Irsay said.
"Peyton and I have talked and said that we'd like to just come to something that makes sense for both of us."
The latest claims of talks between Irsay and Manning come after the owner a couple of days earlier had disclosed of him holding a meeting with the player in a week time, and it is expected now that lingering questions around the recovery and return of the
QB might be answered before the bonus payment.
Irsay added:
"We both know everyone has great interest on it. We’ll just keep talking. And certainly by that date we’ll come up with something that makes sense for him and for the Colts. I think we both understand each other’s issues. [We’re] not delaying it for any
intentional reason. It’s not only a big decision, but it’s a complicated and tough decision."
Irsay did not reflect on the mood prevalent at the meeting, but played down the suggestions that the ties between him and Peyton were on the edge.
This is one of the rare and serious remarks from the player’s employer, and they now make the possibility of his comeback more realistic.
Peyton Manning’s comments about the situation at Colts, following the sacking of all his former managers and coaches had irked the owner and he called the player a politician. It was feared then that both parties were going through one of worst patch of
their relationship spread over past 14 years.
Both of them later attempted to calm down the situation, saying there were no bad feelings between them and they were on good terms.
In spite of that the questions around the recovery of Peyton Manning from his controversially fourth neck procedure kept growing in the absence of disclosure of his final choice on the player’s future by Colts’ owner.
Irsay’s silence became equally frustrating for the player, his family members and fans, and now with his latest revelation of talks between him and the player is expected a good development for them.
All the talks are apparently around the renegotiation of Peyton’s deal terms, and mostly on the possibility of an extension into his bonus payment deadline.
It is yet not clear if the QB will be able to recover to his previous health and fitness and Colts will accept him back in case of his affected form.
