Owner Jim Irsay says Indianapolis Colts aim to sign deal with Andrew Luck, others swiftly-NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, has expressed hope of landing a deal to  new draft quarterback, Andrew Luck, in the near future.
It is a one of the rare occasions that the owner is straight to the point without wasting much time while playing around at both ends of an issue to cause much suspense and uncertainty.
Luck was picked by Colts as top draft prize on the first day of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, held from April 26 to 28, 2012, and Irsay said to have started focusing on the negotiation of a contact for the player.
Colts qualified for the top draft quarterback courtesy of their worst record in the 2011 season, which they had ended up with only two wins and massive 14 losses.
As per rules of the NFL, a team that finishes a season at the bottom of its points table stands eligible for next year’s top draft player. This year, he was Stanford College’s QB, Andrew Luck.
The draft is the main source of recruitment of amateur players and Colts started weighing the signing of Andrew Luck soon after he announced becoming pro.
Since signing him off the draft, both parties are said to be engaged in the contract finalising process, which, as assured by Irsay himself now, is going to be ready and signed in the near future.
Irsay said:
"It's something that should be done swiftly. There shouldn't be a difficult process with that."
Although the owner himself has not detailed out terms of the prospective deal, some sections of media have quoted anonymous sources claiming that it will be a four-year, $22 million deal.
The amount is well within the lines of the slotted money for the top draft prize. However, there can be a difference given that the player is a quality talent and the owner is aiming to train and groom him in the longer run.
Both parties apparently should be seeking to avoid financial terms coming in their way of reaching an amicable solution.
