Owner Jim Irsay says Indianapolis Colts closer to sign rookie QB Andrew Luck -NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts confirmed on June 02 that they were closer to sign a contract with rookie quarterback, Andrew Luck.
Luck, coming out of the Stanford College as the top pick of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, held from April 26 to 28, is likely to receive a four-year contract.
Officially, none of the stakeholders has hinted anything around the possible payout the rookie can expect from the management, but independent analysts have weighed the prospective deal to be around $22 million, the similar payout that Carolina Panthers
had given to last season’s top draft QB.
Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, tweeted on the weekend to confirm the process of negotiations between the management and Luck’s agent, Will Wilson.
He noted the talks to be productive, hoping for a breakthrough on the deal matter in the near future.
Irsay wrote:
“Talks with A Luck's agent, Will Wilson (the brother of Andrew's mother) have been productive. Team Counsel Dan Emerson n Will r getting close!”
Colts have signed almost all draft players but those who were picked in the first round.
The team has signed as many as seven rookies so far, leaving only three to be locked in yet.
Luck is currently out of the side attending his college to finish remaining courses on his architectural design programme, a mandatory requirement under the NFL rules.
His final exams are expected to be over by June 07, and he can attend the team’s formal training and workout activities after the date.
The only team activity the player has been a part of since his joining was a three-day rookie minicamp, most sort of an induction process where the fresh players have an opportunity to get to know each other.
All eyes are now on Luck’s performance next season to lead the team to a turnaround from the most miserable season a year earlier.
Luck has been rated to be the best quarterback of the college league in the 2011 season, while his credentials in the pro league are yet to be proven.
