Owner Jim Irsay’s remark opens doors for Colts QB Peyton Manning to return to Indianapolis – NFL News
Peyton Manning’s desire to end his career as a quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts looks very much a reality following his employer, Jim Irsay’s, statement that he is willing to negotiate a deal with the player, providing him with an opportunity to stay
with his franchise.
An expected meeting between Irsay and the player within a week is going to clear all the uncertainty around the future of Manning with or without Colts.
Irsay has finally spoken up of his choice of retaining the player after maintaining a mum on the issue for a rather longer period of time, which aggravated the situation and created an atmosphere of speculations and controversies.
With the confirmation of his willingness to have the player back to the side after his recovery from a neck injury, Irsay has left the ball in Peyton’s court now.
The player has to make a call first, according to Irsay, who while apparently referring to the player’s willingness to accept renewed deal terms, said he is ready to meet him and discuss their respective future courses within a week time.
"We want this to be his decision," Irsay said on Tuesday, February 14, 2012. "We want him back if he wants to come back. We can work out the contract if he wants to work it out. It's going to be Peyton's call."
The statement has opened up doors for return of the player back to his team and playing football at the Indianapolis for rest of his career, and he has already said that he was open to renegotiate his deal with Colts owner. This includes the possibility
of an extension to the deadline of his optional bonus payment.
Peyton Manning is due an amount of $28 million by March 08, 2012, and there is a possibility that in case of renegotiation Irsay seeks an extension to it.
Jim Irsay while confirming his intentions of meeting the player, possibly sometime next week, has not hinted at his chances of seeking a delay in the bonus payment.
Peyton himself has earlier hinted at accepting a deal without any upfront payment guarantees, saying he would like to earn every penny while playing for the side.
What may be the outcome of the meeting, Irsay’s statement has reflected on his willingness to accept Manning back to the Indianapolis, and this comes as welcome news for Colts fans, who have campaigned for his comeback during the week leading to Super Bowl
earlier this month.
Peyton Manning has missed the entire 2011 National Football League (NFL) season due to his neck injury and consequent surgery in September 2011. This was his third surgery in past 19 months, and there was a fear that it might prove to be a career ending
one.
His comeback has recently come into the limelight and now his chances are further confirmed by the Irsay statement.
