Owner John Earls excited about Chicago Grey’s prospects in the John Smith’s Grand National at Aintree
Chicago Grey, trained by Gordon Elliott, is one of the top contenders for the John Smith’s Grand National, which is scheduled to take place at Aintree on 14thApril, 2012.
His owner John Earls is pleased with how he has been performing. He says the nine-year-old gelding can claim a solid finish provided he doesn’t make a jumping mistake.
Earls is elated with his work-outs and told the press that: “I wouldn't like it too soft but he has run well in soft ground before. He's had a nice preparation and I know Gordon [Elliott] is excited by how well he is.”
He further elaborated on his runner’s performance and said: "This year Aintree will come as his seventh race. I'm not a bit afraid about the trip and I've no doubt he'll jump the fences. If he gets around the first circuit he'll be bang there."
The son of Luso, out of mare, Carrigeen Acer, triumphed in the 141st Year of National Hunt Chase Challenge Cup (Amateur Riders' Novices' Chase) at Cheltenham on 16th March, 2011.
Mounted by Mr. Derek O'Connor, he raced as a favourite with odds of 5 to 1, and defeated Beshabar by 4 ½ lengths.
For the prestigious Grand National event, Paddy Power has given Chicago Gray a 12-1 chance of winning.
Jockey Barry Geraghty looks hopeful about Shakalakaboomboom’s performance in this mega event. He told the press that he has been progressing throughout the season and that he has a lot going on for him.
Trained by Nicky Henderson, for owner, Liam Breslin, the eight-year-old has not claimed a victory this season.
He landed the Grade 3 Majordomo Hospitality Handicap Chase at Cheltenham on 9th December, 2011, under rider Barry Geraghty.
With odds of 9 to 2, he owned the track with his brisk pace, and defeated, Knockara Beau, by 3 ½ lengths.
The track at Aintree was labelled soft, but now the surface is good to soft. Andrew Tulloch, a clerk on the track stated that there was 15 millimeters of rain on 9th April, 2012, on Monday. This has given a chance for the track
to dry and was pleased with how the track looked.
