  1. Are you going to contract to hauling companies to make runs for them?  Or are you going to start your own business and contract with people to haul their goods?  What cargo will you be carrying?  Will you be hauling locally, state wide regionally or nationally?  These are a number of the questions you will be asked when you apply for insurance.

    As far as coverage is concerned, Auto insurance is a must, obviously.  Also, you may want to look into Cargo insurance as well as General Liability (for injury or damage caused when loading and unloading your truck).

    My recommendation would be to talk to a local independent insurance agency.  They will be able to access multiple insurance companies for you to find the best deal around.
