At stumps on the second day of the four-day match, between Oxford University and Cambridge University, the latter trail by 151 runs with seven wickets in hand, in their first innings after they posted a total of 129 runs for the loss of three wickets in response to the first innings score of 280 runs amassed by their rivals at The Parks, Oxford.
The day’s proceedings started with Oxford University resuming their first innings from a tally of 171 runs for the loss of four wickets, with OJ http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jones-c69217 on an overnight tally of 77 and SA Westaway on a knock of 13 runs.
The side received an early shocker of the day when after the addition just three runs, they lost their first wicket on the demise of Westaway, who perished after adding just a run to his innings.
The early demise of the batsman, gave the fielding side a hope of getting back getting back in the match and limiting the opposition from posting a big total.
With 180 runs on the board, Oxford suffered the loss of another wicket on the departure of Jones, who faltered after smashing an astounding innings of 83 runs.
The wicket of Jones was a big relief for the fielding side as they had got the main batsman out, and now needed to tighten the screws around the rest of the batting line-up.
However, they were in for a shocker as Oxford’s lower-order yielded nifty runs to help the side reach a respectable total.
Beginning their first innings, Cambridge University bolstered an impressive opening stand of 40 runs, with skipper RT Timms and PH Hughes smashing the bowlers everywhere.
Later Timms was joined by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TC-Elliott-c92921 as Cambridge ripped apart Oxford’s bowling line-up.
With Timms smacking a fine innings of 52 and Elliott 44, the side gave their opponents a rough time as the day came to an end.
