Oxfordshire thumped Dorset by 163 runs in a match of the Minor Counties Championship, at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Tuesday, July 26, 2011.
The hosts required 289 runs for victory, but were all-out for 125 runs in their second innings. Only three batsmen in the team managed to reach double-figures whereas the rest were below par.
Earlier, the Oxfordshire skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Anthony-Hawtin-c63761, decided to bat first after winning the toss. The wicket was good for the batsmen, but there was some assistance for the bowlers as well, which made the competition pretty much even.
Oxfordshire managed 329/8 runs in their first innings before the skipper made the declaration. The team would have been pleased in the end, as they were in a terrible situation at the start of the innings.
The visitors lost four wickets for just 23 runs on the board and were threatened to be bowled out cheaply. However, a marathon partnership between Jamie Perkin and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jonathan-Cater-c69095 took the game away from the opposition.
The pair put together 215 runs for the fifth-wicket partnership, shifting the momentum on their side. Cater was unfortunate to miss-out on a century by two runs, as he got dismissed for 98. He played really well though and the team would have been pleased
with his performance.
Perkin made the most of the start he got to his innings and ended up being the top scorer for his side with 122 runs. He struck 12 fours and one six in his valiant knock, which changed the complexion of the game completely.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Hayman-c1646 picked up three wickets for Dorset, but would have liked some support from the other end in order to restrict the opposition to a lesser total.
Dorset didn’t have a bad outing either, as they collected 319 runs before being all-out. The team was given a solid start by their opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaron-Williams-c41467, who collected 65 runs at the top of the order.
There were also a couple of solid contributions from the middle-order players Masoor Khan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-John-Metcalfe-c75210, who ended up with 67 and 54 in their respective outings.
The visitors only gained a first innings lead of 10 runs after a sensational bowling performance from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chad-Keegan-c1222, who dismissed seven batsmen.
Oxfordshire’s second innings didn’t start badly, but their top-four batsmen once again failed to make a significant impression. However, Perkin scored his second successive century, guiding his side in a dominant position.
The promising middle-order player remained unbeaten on 107, as the innings was declared at 278 for the loss of five wickets.
Hayman was yet again impressive with the ball, picking up a couple of wickets this time around.
Dorset had to chase down 289 runs for a victory, but the team failed miserably. Masoor http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 was the only batsman to make a solid impression, as he collected 50 runs, but the team was all-out for 125.
Keegan picked up six wickets in the second innings for Oxfordshire, completing a 13-wicket haul in the match.
