  1. Hi Angie

I am going through this with my daughter.  She is currently in rehab.  She didn't get addicted to Oxycontin, but the signs for narcotic abuse are basically the same for most controlled substances.  For instance, when she takes it, you will notice a big change in her normal personality.  She will be happy, will want to do things for you. it's a feeling of euphoria, calmness, and a general "I don't care" attitude.  When she can't get it, she will be totally opposite.  Angry, frustrated, wringing her hands, sweating and total anxiety.  You can confront her with it, but you must be very tactful.  She could snap at you.  The only thing about any addiction is that they have to want help.  You can't force it on them.  I talked to my daughter for 5 yrs about her addiction and finally, she came to me and asked me to help her.  I am so proud of her for taking this big step and the first step they have to take is the admission of their addiction.  Keep talking to her, but you can't force her into stopping.  I will be glad to answer anymore question you have.  Just mail me if you want.
