Oxycontin with tylenol PM?

Question

Can I take a tylenol PM with Oxycontin?

I'm taking 40MG CR tablets.

I have a headache and i can't really sleep.

I was wondering if it could have any dangerous interactions...

please answer ASAP

most of the lesser strength pain killers like percocet, loratabs, loracet, tylox, are all pain killers with Tylenol in them. it should be fine to take Tylenol pm with Oxycontin.

You have a bigger problem than a headache. The Oxycontin is for pain. If your taking them, you shouldn't feel a headache. Headache = pain. Oxycontin = no pain. Sounds like your not taking your meds. as prescribed, THAT will cause a headache, and mixing them with other drugs, will only make it worse.

You are saying you have taken Oxycontin and have a headache? Are you sure you are not speaking of Oxycodone? There is a big difference. How many milligrams are you taking?

I would strongly recommend not taking any NSAID's (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug's) while also taking a prescription painkiller unless instructed by your physician.  If you are having trouble sleeping, a Benadryl would be the best choice.  That is what is in the Tylenol PM that makes you sleepy.  (Minimize drug interactions.)  Then, you need to contact your physician immediately during office hours and inform him/her of your problem so you can either change drugs or add on an appropriate medication with no (or minimal) interactions.

If the oxy does not get you high or make you feel down, then the addition of a normal dose of Tylenol PM would not be dangerous. If you took too much oxy's, drank some beers, and then the tylenol PM might be the straw that broke the camels back, and you might stop breathing.

Now you may not be able to sleep because your afraid you wont wake up LOL!

There should be no problem using Tylenol PM with Oxycontin, especially if you are taking the recommended dose of the former and the prescribed dose of the latter.

The advice to contact your pharmacist is good -- there's usually one to be contacted 24hours a day.  They are (in my experience) always willing to give this kind of advice, and never worry about whether you are a customer, are discreet, and have lots of experience with this stuff.

The advice about not getting headaches on Oxycontin is off the mark.  There are some headaches that Oxycontin will work well for, and others they will not, and this is highly individualistic.

Of course, it's always a good idea to let your doctor know about these things the next time you're in for a consultation.

Headache while on oxycontin? You did not describe your headache, but it must be a whopper. Perhaps you should see a Neurologist about your headaches.  That dose of Oxycontin should take care of most common tension headaches.  Might not work for a migraine, tho, and narcotics can actually make the headache from some problems worse.  

As for sleeping, you will eventually without taking anything.  Don't OD.

If the headache is not gone by tomorrow, go to your doctor or a local ER and get checked.  

What they will want to know is  (a) the nature of the pain- throbbing, steady, sharp, burning, etc. (b) premonatory symptoms- can you recognize the headache coming on? (c) associated symptoms- nausea, vomiting, light sensitivity, noise sensitivity (d) and of course how often you get them, any pattern to them,(e) any triggers- certain foods, alcohol? (f) Family history of bad headaches, (g) history of head injury in sports, etc.Have those answers ready for the doctor.

take regular tylenol instead. if you're on oxy you don't want anything to slow you down even more.

taking multiple medications that result in drowsiness and slowed heart rate can cause problems. it's best to stick with a normal version rather than a pm version.

yeah dont combine the two ... go with ADVIL ibprofin or motrin (all the same drug)  Increase your fluid intake . you could be getting an OC headache they happen sometimes when your body gets dehydrated if the headache is before the OC you should take some caffeen with it. it will make you feel better.

You can mix Tylenol and Oxycontin, assuming your oxy doesn't have acetaminophen in it. It should say on the bottle if it's mixed. I think the chemical thats in tylenol pm  is the same as the chemical in benadryl, which is the same that they use in most over the counter sleep aids. You should be absolutely fine. However, if you're worried, you CAN call your 24-hour pharmacy and ask them. Even if the oxy is not your perscription (don't abuse drugs!) they should tell you if it will counteract. Ask to speak to a pharmacist. Good luck!
