Oyster card fee's?

i used the oyster card for the first time yest. and im wondering how it works.

example: for zone 1 is it 1.50 pounds every time u swipe the card or the total is 1.50 pounds for going in and out of the stations.

and when you swipe it does it tell you how much money you have left?

also can anyone tell me how much is it to go from zone1-3

  1. The fare pricing in London is quite simple yet complex. It starts off with a minimum of £1.50 for offpeak, which is usually after 7 in the evening or £2.00 for other times to make a journey in Zone 1. Again there is a price cap of £4.00 or something so if you make two or more journeys, you dont keep on paying but the rest of the journeys are free for the day.

    A journey from zone 1-3 usually cost £2.00 for off peak (After 7 pm on weekdays, and entire weekend) and £2.50 for the rest of the time.
