Ozil - A star in the making
Mesut Ozil is a Turkish-German who has represented the German football team. He is one of the most talented young play makers in the world. Ozil came to prominence in the 2010 FIFA world cup and was nominated for the Golden ball award after his exploits
helped Germany finish third in the tournament.
He started off his career at Gelsenkirchen and moved to Shalke in 2005. When he burst on to the scene at Shalke he was dubbed as “the next big thing” in German football. He later had a falling out with the management at the club. This resulted
in his move to Werder Bremen in January 2008. He had to fill huge shoes left behind by Brazilian play maker Diego. Ozil did not disappoint and soon become a constant in the squad.
In his first full season with Bremen Ozil notched up 3 goals and had 15 assists. This made many stand up and take notice of the young man. The following season Ozil came into his own and showed major signs of maturity. 9 goals and 17 assists showed his attacking
prowess and helped Bremen finish 3rd in the league; this warranted Champions league football for the club.
Ozil had earned his place in the German World cup squad after his brilliant domestic performances. The World cup proved to be a stepping stone in a seemingly sparkling career. Ozil was very impressive and was behind most German attacks. His fluency guided
Germany past the likes of England and a much fancied Argentina. In fact the Germans were the highest scoring team in the tournament and much credit was attributed to Ozil.
Following his exploits at the World stage many aristocratic European clubs wanted to secure the signature of the youngster. He eventually moved to arguably the biggest club in the world, Real Madrid. He now has the chance to play alongside some of the stars
of world football like Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Xabi Alonso, Ramos etc. There could be no better man to inspire a young talent than Jose Mourinho. Ozil has apparently fallen into safe hands.
His career at the Spanish giants has been nothing short of brilliant. So far Ozil has not experienced defeat at the club. In 12 appearances he has conjured up 3 goals and 5 assists. He has become the favourite of the fans, the players and the manager alike
and features in almost each game.
The Real Madrid faithful are hoping he could live up to his reputation as the “next Zidane”. Zidane will be a hard act to follow but there is no denying the ability of Ozil. His style is very similar to the French superstar. Ozil has all the traits to become
a great player. He has a superb 1st touch and brilliant vision that can slice open any defence, he also is blessed with a very sweet left foot and has a very good long distance shot.
When asked about his style of play, Ozil said, "My technique and feeling for the ball is the Turkish side to my game. The discipline, attitude and always-give-your-all are the German part." His former under 21 manager thinks Ozil has great technique and
can improvise efficiently.
If early promise is anything to go by, then Mesut Ozil will be a great player. He has all the attributes and abilities to shine on the world stage. His natural talents make him destined to become a force to reckon with. Barring any injuries or mishaps Mesut
Ozil is a star in the making.
