The German international appeared pleased to have surpassed Netzer’s 100 appearances mark and stated that he wants to continue his excellent run of form.
Real Madrid’s Mesut Ozil has voiced his delight, as the former Werder Bremen attacking midfielder exceeded Gunter Netzer’s record of 100 appearances for Los Blancos.
Netzer was the last German player to have represented the nine-time European champions. The retired veteran is rated among one of the most illustrious players to have worn the White of Madrid.

As Jose Mourinho became the Real Madrid head coach in the summer of 2010, he brought several changes to the team. One of those changes was to add Ozil to the squad and this proved fruitful for Los Merengues.
Ever since joining the Spanish giants, the West Germany native has had little difficulty in making his mark on the Spanish capital.
Last season he had the highest number of assists for the current Spanish La Liga champions, a feat that he repeated in this season’s campaign.
However, the attacking midfielder has insisted that his comparison with Gunter Netzer flatters him, maintaining that it is little of his concern.
While talking to reporters, the former Schalke player quoted:
“Gunter Netzer was a great player, who everyone at Real Madrid still respects. Therefore, I am honoured to have played as many games as he did with the club. Such comparisons are secondary to me though as I'm more concerned with my performance on the pitch.
I'll never forget this championship and the celebrations afterwards. We've been rewarded for a year of hard work."
Real Madrid have finally managed to break Barcelona’s dominance over Spanish football as they became the champions of Liga BBVA this season and saw Ozil being instrumental throughout this triumph.
