Ozzie Guillen braces for being booed in Wrigley Field as Miami Marlins take on Chicago Cubs - MLB
Former manager with the Chicago White Sox, Ozzie Guillen is going to experience an unfriendly welcome as his current team the Miami Marlins begins three match series against the Chicago Cubs Tuesday at Wrigley Field. Interestingly enough, Guillen knows it.
He, along with two other players namely Mark Buehrle and Carlos Zambrano, who also played for the White Sox in the past, will be meeting an unpleasant reception.
Couple of weeks ago, one of the White Sox team-mates had talked about the failure of their club last year and the role of the manager in this regard. He was unequivocal in terming Guillen as the greatest weak-link in their poor performance.
Furthermore, he had gone on to claim that the only reason why White Sox has performed tremendously this year is because of a change in their manager.
Such a statement will certainly have mounted the anger of the fans that are h**l-bent to locate scapegoats for their last year meltdown.
Therefore, once they see Guillen stepping foot on their soil this week, they will vent their anger. The method can be anything from mocking to downright abusing him.
Meanwhile, Guillen is mentally ready to face the reactionary bursts, but he hopes that things will not be beyond a particular standard of behaviour.
"It's going to be interesting and fun," Guillen said. "Hopefully they don't overdo it by calling him names or calling him something they aren't supposed to say. They can boo. They can say anything they want. But as long as they don't cross the line, just
go out and have fun. I want to be out there (during batting practice) to see it. I'm not going to but I would love to be out there to see what they are saying.”
While Guillen stated about the possible booing by the fans, he called it a great opportunity for the opposing team to accumulate money. He elaborated that the higher number of spectators thronging the stadium due to him will result in larger sales for the
club.
As the series gets underway from Tuesday, one can look forward to excitement and interesting events taking place in the next week.
