Ozzie Guillen calls himself a true “White Sox” as he counters criticism against him - MLB Update
The Miami Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen looks back on the past and the years that he spent with the Chicago White Sox as a manager. While he is extremely uneasy with the fact that reporters have termed his absence as the reason behind White Sox success
this year, he asserts his affiliations with the club.
Currently, the Marlins are taking on the Chicago Cubs in their three match series. Therefore, Guillen finds the first opportunity to face the fans of his former team in Chicago.
Before the series started, Guillen knew the possibility of jeers and mockery of him coming off from the fans in the stadium. He was even excited about the reactionary bursts. Although deep in his heart he must have been scared, as he largely gave an impression
that he was ready to face whatever the fans were going to do with him in the stadium.
Now as the series begins, he has taken an interesting turn. While countering the claims by some media members that he was the greatest weak-link last year, he shares his affiliations with the club and elaborates how he worked for its betterment.
He clarifies that since most of the members that were in the team during his time are doing a terrific job, it is unfair to blame him.
He is of the view that both the pitching coach and the hitting coach are doing an excellent job, which he believes as the reason enough to claim that his crew was not incapable at that time.
"Don't say they're winning because I'm not there," Guillen said. "That's not fair. That's not fair. They have the same guy (pitching coach Don Cooper) commanding the pitching as last year. They talk about (former hitting coach) Greg Walker, well, I think
the Atlanta Braves are doing pretty good. I believe it's not fair when you talk about coaches moving."
Furthermore, he is troubled by the fact that a few reporters and media members are launching an unfair campaign against him, in an attempt to tarnish his image.
To this, he says that since he still has cordial relationship with the top management of the White Sox, their respect for him can be understood.
The series has just begun and one can expect more statements from Guillen on this issue in the next couple of days.
