Ozzie Guillen finally removes Heath Bell from his role for an indefinite time - MLB Update
As if it was enough the manager Ozzie Guillen will condone, Heath Bell will no longer be given a chance during save situations. Every game Bell is being sent to protect the lead he is losing it in the end.
His locations are hopelessly misplaced and that has been the biggest reason of his failure.
In his former home ballpark on Friday at San Diego, he came at the back of criticism being levelled against the manager for continuously having him throw late in the innings to no avail. Number of opportunities for a save was squandered by him.
As it was another chance for him to assert his importance as a great closer for his side, far from getting any better, he sunk to his worst. Auspiciously the Miami Marlins won eventually, it had however nothing to do with his contribution.
Guillen still trusts in him and has not written him off completely. Just to give him a time to reflect on his errors, the manager duly plans to bring him back after some time in the season.
Regardless of the doubles he gave up, Guillen was impressed by the way Bell hurled throws at the batters. Only if he can streamline his throws within no-strike zone area, he is not far from his best.
"I like the way he's throwing the ball," Guillen said. "The ball is coming out of his hand pretty well, but the location is not there. We're going to move him down for a few days to get him back on track. It's not like I'm removing him from his job. I made
it clear to him if we're going to be the club we think we should be, it's easier for him to be where he's supposed to be.”
The Marlins will now brace for dealing with limited options they have in the bullpen. Throwing from the mound during save situations requires quality pitchers.
Bell’s struggle is a serious setback to the clubs’ plans. In his absence, Edward Mujica and Randy Choate are likely to be given the job.
Amazing career record possessed by Bell lends credence to an assumption that he is worth putting a confidence in. He has all what it takes to bounce back dramatically.
This is what the manager will look forward to once he hands him the job again in the season.
