Ozzie Guillen hits back at Heath Bell as he questions his principles for playing games - MLB News
Following the remarks by Heath Bell toward Ozzie Guillen, the latter now criticises him for the lack of principles. The other day Bell gave an impression that he does not like to respect Guillen and questioned his inability to take players onboard while
making decisions.
Guillen in reply is equally cynical of the relief pitcher, stating Bell has not yet realised his role in costing defeats to the team in the season.
Bell has struggled throughout this year. He was originally brought into the season by the Marlins for doing the closing job. He had the credentials to carry it out successfully. However, more often than not when he was sent on the mound under saving opportunities
he leaked runs, which resulted in losses.
Despite the fact Guillen put faith in his ability and allowed him chances, he failed to live up to the expectations. Then the manager eventually had to replace him with another pitcher and resisted sending him on the mound under pressure cooker situations.
As the season now progresses toward its conclusion, Bell has come up with the contention that Guillen did not treat players properly in the season.
Guillen is disturbed by his comments and for the same reason he has tried to be blunt in his response to the criticism.
"It was my turn this week," Guillen said. "Last week, it was the pitching coach. The week before, it was his teammates. Every week it's something. That's why I don't respect him as a person. You have to have principles."
Guillen has clearly stated that Bell is not worth respecting as far as his personality is concerned.
The rumours are doing the rounds which say Guillen will most probably be terminated after this season. Keeping in view the results of the team under him, it is hard to claim that they are baseless.
Guillen however is least bothered by these speculations and has reiterated time-and-again that he is ready to face any reality that prevails ahead.
The conflict between the manager and a player can disrupt unity and create groups in the team. It will be hoped that the matter does not become serious and the misunderstandings are removed soon.
