Ozzie Guillen shows no regrets after departure from Chicago White Sox – MLB News
The former skipper of the Chicago White Sox Ozzie Guillen has said publically that he has no regrets leaving the White Sox franchise, in fact, he is not wholly responsible for his departure from the team where he spent eight seasons. He talked during a conference
call on Wednesday night and explained in detail about everything that provoked him to join Florida Marlins.
Guillen said, "I don't say the White Sox pushed me out, (they said). They put me on the spot. They said the (Florida) people want you, they need you now and you have to show up, and that's what I did. I see some media people and some radio people talking
about me quitting on the team.”
White Sox management and Guillen parted ways last month when he personally requested to be released from his contract. Later, he went on to join the Florida Marlins after serving almost eight seasons with the White Sox franchise. Earlier, some reports also
speculated in the media as Guillen and White Sox general manger Ken Williams are in talks regarding a potential extension in his contract, but his four year contract with the Marlins worth 4-million-dollars confirmed his departure.
After Guillen’s departure, the White Sox management brought Robin Ventura to fill the vacant managerial position. Ventura was given a three year contract which will enable him to manage the White Sox until 2014.
Although, 2011 season was comparatively depressing for Guillen as his team could not perform as expected, but still his managerial record is very impressive with the most number of wins in the recent past of the White Sox. Guillen’s 679-618 (win loss) record
during his whole eight seasons from 2004 to 2011 as manager has earned him great acknowledgment from many baseball experts. Last season Chicago White Sox 79-83 (win loss) record is the main reason why he was eager to leave the club.
It will be interesting to see how Guillen’s departure from the White Sox will affect the club in the coming seasons. The Marlins will be looking to Guillen to guide them to a successful regular season next year.
