Ozzie Guillen stresses the need of having simple approach on-plate for Miami Marlins - MLB Update
The Miami Marlins make simple things complicated as their hitters dither on the plate with so many assumptions at the back of their mind. Since start of the month of June, their offence has taken a nosedive and has failed to back up pitchers with proper
run-support. On this, the Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen shows signs of helplessness on his face as he states that players are unable to follow a simple approach, despite being told about it a number of times.
Losses become a routine for the club. Batters who performed extremely well in the last month seem to be on decline currently.
Third-baseman, Hanley Ramirez has suddenly lost composure which is resulting into wastage of many at-bats.
Similarly, Giancarlo Stanton, though still hovers around his best, cannot help taking effect of poor performance by the rest of the hitters.
Omar Infante is another hitter who has slowed down in his progress after pulling off stunning victories for the club earlier.
While all this is going on, pressure to produce greater number of hits has increased.
This leads to a panic-riddled situation for the batters. In an attempt to turn things around in a matter of few games, hurried attitude takes over their mind and makes them forget even the basics of swinging and finding right at-bats.
Rightly analysing the flaw-riddled technique the batters are employing, Guillen commented that the players are waiting for appropriate at-bats for hitting. When those never come, scores of at-bats are missed and the misery continues like this, he elaborated.
"We've been a little too careful about having perfect at-bats instead of just going out there and just hack," Guillen said. "Don't worry about your swing. Don't worry about your mechanics. … When you're in little league, you don't watch videos. When you're
in college, you don't watch videos. You have your grandparents throw you batting practice, and you make it to the big leagues."
Manager explained, instead of overcomplicating the matter, players will be better off if they just go and treat every at-bat normally.
To what extent the hitters are going to act upon this will be known within few games.
