Ozzie Guillen the difference behind better performance by Chicago White Sox, says Paul Konerko-MLB
With the Miami Marlins stuttering in their quest, worries for manager Ozzie Guillen are a natural consequence of this. However, those have been compounded now as the Chicago White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko comes up with a statement, which points out
that the absence of Guillen as a reason behind their improved performance in the season.
Last year, Guillen was ignored for contract extension by White Sox after they experienced the forgettable 2011 regular season.
His position as a manager was taken over by Robin Ventura.
Since White Sox have gone through a terrific first half of the season, their first baseman believes that it has a lot to do with the change in their manager.
This statement is going to affect the confidence of Guillen. The fact he is struggling to get his present club the Marlins to some respectable position in the season, he will be discomforted.
Meanwhile, the Marlins’ fans may take the statement as another reason behind their struggle in the first half. The whole blame for the losing streaks suffered regularly by the club may be falling direct on Guillen, now.
Although Konerko admits that he tried his best last year.
However, he has failed to comprehend the bigger picture, which is the timing and impact of his words on the Marlins’ fans that already appear unhappy with the way Guillen is going about the things.
Commenting on the kind of personalities both Guillen and Ventura are, Konerko discussed.
"I think a lot of baseball stuff those guys have is very similar as far as what they value, what they think should be done," Konerko said. "Obviously their personalities are 180 (degrees) from each other."
Furthermore, he elaborated about the strategy Ventura uses to get things done.
"Robin, he knows the game. He's a tough guy. He's a quiet guy, so sometimes people think he's easy, but he's really not. When something needs to be said, he can be stern. He can get his point across," He stated.
A response to the words of Konerko has yet to come from Guillen. Within few hours, one can expect an exchange of arguments. However, one will hope that it is not going to be at the expense of Miami's progress in the season.
