  1. The inverse operation of division is multiplication.  In order to undo dividing by three, you can multiply both sides by three.  Therefore, p/3*3=-5*3=-15

  2. P/3=-5

    multiply 3 on each side..

    p/3 (3) = -5(3)

    the 3's on the left side of the equation cancel out so you have

    p=-15

    :)

  3. multiply both sides by 3 and that will take care of the fraction

    when you do that

       p = -15

    which makes sense because -15 divided by 3 = -5

  4. A fraction is really just a easier way to write a division problem. So think of it as P divided by 3 = -5. Multiplication is the opposite of division which means you need to multiply both sides by 3 which in the fraction is called the denominator. After multiplying you get P=-15 which is the answer.

  5. Since p is divided by 3, you have to do the opposite of dividing by 3 to both sides. This means that you multiply p/3 by 3 and -5 by three. This causes the 3 on the left side to cancel. You should then have p=-15

  6. With fractions you can always multiply the bottom number by the answer.

    In this case, it would be 3 x 5. 15

  7. Hi Emily,

    Don't be scared of these fractions.

    The trick is always to get to p = something

    In this case if you multiply both sides by 3 you get

    3 * p / 3 = p = 3 * -5 = -15

    Hence, p = -15
