P V Sindhu aims to soar high like Saina Nehwal – Badminton News
The young and spirited female shuttler P V Sindhu of India has complete faith in her craft as she vowed to prove her worth by following the footsteps of compatriot shuttler Saina Nehwal.
Women’s Singles expert Sindhu has captured four international titles in Indonesia, Switzerland, India and Maldives while in recent past she finished Dutch Open by standing at second position.
These splendid victories helped her to raise her status from 151 to 27 in latest world ranking.
Now she is second highest ranked Indian shuttler after World Number five Saina Nehwal and she is determined to follow the path paved by the badminton queen.
Sindhu said, "I want to see myself inside top 15 by the end of year. Many people have been telling me that I am the next Saina Nehwal, for that I have to practice harder. Hopefully I will be next Saina Nehwal."
Junior National Champion trains under supervision of the legend Pullela Gopichand, where top female shuttler Saina Nehwal also practices. She praised her coach and senior colleague for helping to elevate her craft.
Sindhu realises that there is still long way to go as she admitted that she is trying to learn modern game techniques and will add some variety in her strokes.
She said, "Our coach trained us and I have been working on my strokes and endurance. Nowadays lot of endurance is important as there are more rallies."
The 16-year-old shuttler registered her presence at international level by winning bronze medal in 2009 Sub-Junior Asian Badminton Championships. She clinched second spot at victory stand in 2010 edition of Iran Fajr International Badminton Challenge then
in same year she ended Junior World Badminton Championships in quarter-final round.
Sindhu feels previous season was most productive year of her career as it brought four international titles for her. She hoped that ongoing season will also yield best result for her.
She said, "Last year, I won four tournaments. I didn't play in many Super Series, but this year I am ranked 27th, so I might get into main draw also. Hope this year also goes well."
Her immediate challenge is Yonex Sunrise India Open where she will start her marathon on April 25, 2012. Sindhu is hoping to soar high in home event as she missed Asian Badminton Championships just to get prepared for this event which will feature all prominent
shuttlers of the world.
