P V Sindhu clinches Girl's Singles title at Badminton Asia Youth Under 19 Championships 2012
India’s talented female player P V Sindhu showed her staggering form and stole the limelight as she grabbed Girls Singles title at the Badminton Asia Youth Under 19 Championships 2012 in Korea, on Saturday, July 7.
In the final encounter, the in-form Indian shuttler overpowered Japan’s Okuhara Nozomi in three games.
Sindhu, who was the top seed in Women’s Singles draw of the championship, won all of her previous matches in straight games but she had to dig deep into her reserves to chuck out her Japanese rival in rubber games in the title match.
The higher ranked Indian lost the opening set but fired back to claim the second set with a good margin. In the decider, Sindhu remained lucky in the ending points as she won it with a dramatically tight score on the board.
On the other hand, the second seeded Nozomi found an impressive start and took the first set but failed to stop her rival from winning the second set. In the final game, she remained unlucky at the finishing points and lost to her Indian opponent with a
close margin.
Both youngsters showed their spirited play in opening rallies of first game when they played attacking and composed badminton and no one could establish her worth until the break.
After the one-minute interval, Sindhu tried to take advantage by changing her tactics but failed to put up good show and lost the set with a margin of 18-21.
In the second game, Sindhu showed her impressive skills when she dictated the pace of rallies and she was in a strong position until the break.
After the interval, Sindhu continued her positive play and defied all odds to take the set with a comfortable 21-17 score on the board.
In the deciding game, both ladies kept the crowd engaged by putting up staggering show of attacking and positive badminton and reached at the breath-taking stage of 20-20.
At this crucial stage, it was Sindhu who controlled her nerves and took two consecutive points to claim the set with a tight score of 22-20.
Sindhu emerged as title winner as she ended up the final match in three games with a thrilling 18-21, 21-17 and 22-20 score on the board.
