P.V. Sindhu ecstatic over successful Asian Junior Championships outing – Badminton News
The young female shuttler P.V. Sindhu of India is dancing on air after wearing the crown at Asian Junior Championships in Korea on Saturday, July 7, 2012.
Sindhu overpowered Japanese campaigner Okuhara Nozomi in the title match and became first player of the country to claim this honour.
Now, World Number 25 shuttler is over the moon as she expressed her joy after this splendid win and declared that her hard work paid off in this esteemed Championship.
Sindhu said, “I’m obviously very happy to have won the title. But it wasn’t all that easy for me. I lost the first game. Thankfully I bounced back in the second.”
The 17-year-old girl locked the honour in three hard fought games by registering 18-21, 21-17 and 22-20 margin on the board.
She dictated the opposing shuttler in most part of the game and emerged as Champion despite of a severe blow in the very opening game.
On the other hand, the Japanese shuttler Okuhara Nozomi could not make best out of her initial advantage and knelt down in last two segments of the show.
After second set, both contenders were standing on the same level with 1-1 match score and they put all they had to oust their opponent in decider.
Sindhu thinks that third set was really a survival of the fittest as she recalled her gruelling effort in the crucial moments of the battle.   
She said, “It was the third that was very crucial. Initially, I was down to 16-13, but I managed to edge past her and won the final set by 22-20.”
The Indian player has been performing consistently in this season as she also powered her way into semi-finals of 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix Gold.
She admitted that the failure against a lower ranked Japanese campaigner Sayaka Takahashi was disappointing as she squandered a golden opportunity of winning GP Gold title at senior level.
Sindhu said, “It was very disappointing for me to have lost against her. But by the end of the game you can’t keep clinging on to the defeat. It’s a game after all. Someone wins and someone has to lose.”
Now, the badminton critics are declaring her a future hope for the country and this will certainly put the youngster under huge pressure and she will have to put an extra effort to live up to their expectations.
