P. V. Sindhu makes her way to quarter-finals of 2013 Yonex Sunrise Malaysia Grand Prix Gold
India’s young but talented female shuttler P. V. Sindhu stretched her winning streak and led the country to quarter-final round of Yonex Sunrise Malaysia Grand Prix Gold on May 2, 2013.
This Women’s Singles pre quarter-final match saw her swinging arms against Cheung Ngan Yi and their meeting prolonged to 46 minutes.
Both shuttlers challenged each other in all areas of game and made the crowd gasp with a stunning performance while piling up final figures of 11-21, 21-18 and 21-10.
Though, the Indian campaigner took some time to read her rival’s game but still she managed to end this tussle with a favourable result.
On the other hand, Ngan Yi squandered her first set win and bid adieu to this GP Gold event in a woeful manner.
The Hong Kong shuttler looked in prime touch in the opening game as she did not give her competitor enough time to get settled and established an unassailable lead.
She prevailed in many consecutive rallies and doubled her total in no time. Ngan Yi kept on moving forward on points table and piled up a mountainous figure before the med-game break.
This initial advantage helped her in ruling the court in the second half. She widened the gap in third quarter of the set and swept the table with an impressive score of 21-11.
However, it proved her last success in this tournament as the Indian shuttler showed a transformed character in remaining segments of the showdown.
This time P.V. Sindhu did not repeat previous mistakes and brought the contest to right balance. At first, she strengthened her grip by registering a decent total of 11 and then capitalised this lead in latter part of the game.
She placed a winning margin of 21-18 and setup a nerve-racking third set. Unexpectedly, the decider proved a one-sided affair as Sindhu dominated the court.
She raised her chances of success by prevailing in the establishing rallies and then sealed splendid win by putting a concluding figure of 21-10.
With this victory, P.V. Sindhu qualified for the quarter-final round where she is scheduled to meet Hera Desi of Indonesia.
