P.V. Sindhu storms into Women’s Singles final of 76th Senior National Badminton Championships
India’s in-form player, P.V. Sindhu, has stormed into Women’s Singles final after taming her lower ranked team-mate Aditi Mutatkar in semi-final battle of the 76th Senior National Badminton Championships 2012, in India, on Tuesday, January 24.
Sindhu, who is currently World Number 30 and top seed in Women’s Singles draw in the event, played to her full potential and ended the match in a sensational fashion.
It was a completely one-sided fight as the higher ranked Sindhu showed her elite skills and made her mark over her rival. She showed no mercy to Mutatkar and won the battle in straight games of 28 minutes with a comprehensive margin.
Sindhu started her campaign against Mutatkar in a positive and composed manner. She played remarkable game in the opening set of this semi-final showdown and put pressure on her lower ranked team-mate from the starting points.
On the other hand, Mutatkar tried to play aggressive badminton but failed to place her shots in right areas. She also committed many unforced errors while executing net shots and remained trailing behind her higher ranked compatriot until the break.
After the break, Sindhu continued her elevated play in the first game and stretched her lead. She manipulated the weaker defence of her opponent and remained successful in bagging the opening game with a sensational margin of 21-10.
In the following set, Mutatkar accelerated her speed in starting rallies but failed to earn points as her rival was in complete control of the game.
Sindhu played with superb variations and kept disturbing the flow of her challenger. Until the break, the top seed was in strong position as she managed a comfortable gap.
After the break, the top seed pushed her challenger in all corners and perfectly placed her impressive smashes in the right areas. She remained on course and won the second game with a wonderful 21-12 score on the board.
This Women’s Singles semi-final clash ended in the favour of Sindhu who made her mark over Mutatkar in just 28 minutes with a comprehensive margin of 21-10 and 21-12.
In the title match, Sindhu will be up against Neha Pandit who overpowered Sayali Gokhale in the second semi-final encounter.
