P. V. Sindhu treads into Women’s Singles quarter-finals of 2012 Li Ning China Masters
India’s budding female shuttler P. V. Sindhu alarmed all the contestants of Li Ning China Masters as she thrashed Porntip Buranaprasertsuk en-route to the quarter-finals on September 13, 2012.
This pre quarter-final tussle kept both Women’s Singles experts busy on the court for 47 minutes and ended with concluding margin of 10-21, 21-7 and 21-19.
Though, Sindhu had a horrible start as she lost the first set with a notable deficit of eleven points but she made amends in next two games and locked the honour in a splendid manner.
The eighth seeded Porntip failed to continue with her top form and bid adieu to this prestigious Super Series.
She kick-started her campaign in perfect fashion and gained an early advantage in match score position by winning the opening game.
In the first half of the set, Porntip played with a cautious approach in the beginning but then revived her confidence with a couple of uninterrupted points.
She capitalised this flow and reached to a dominating position of 11-5 before the interval. She made best out of this initial lead and transformed it into an overwhelming figure of 21-10.
However, this proved her last success in this tournament as the young Sindhu did not give her even a single chance to bounce back in next two games.
The Indian female campaigner showed a strong character after first set loss and counter-balanced the situation with a staggering knock.
This time she launched an intensive attack and put her challenger’s expedition to a halt. She gathered valuable points in a row and dominated the first half of the set with 11-3 margin.
Later part of the game saw her in prime touch as Sindhu proved the command over her badminton craft and swept the table with 21-7 score.
The decider, as expected, was a nerve-racking contest and it kept the audience glued to their chairs until the final moments.
Both shuttlers did not allow each other to enjoy a permanent lead and remained close on points table throughout the third set.
Finally, Sindhu stole the limelight with a tight yet decisive result of 21-19 and marched into the quarter-finals.
Her next challenge will be to prove her point against the Olympic Champion Li Xuerui of China.
