Question:

P87 Tax Relief?

I have applied for a rebate through a P87 for the same time. The form says I can claim back 40p a mile for the first 10,000 and 25p / mile thereafter. The Inland Revenue have told me that they will send a cheque for relief only on the total I have claimed for. Is this right or should they refund 40p / mile etc?

  1. No, they won't refund 40p a mile. They will multiply 40p X number of miles, and/or 25p x number of miles, and you will get tax relief on that, either at 20% or 40%, whatever your top rate of tax.
