Is it possible to get insurance in one state, while the license and registration of the car is of another state? Or are the laws for each state different?

  1. No because on your insurance it will say CALIFORNIA INSURANCE CARD if you live in California and if a police officer pulls you over and sees that your registration says one state and your insurance is in a different state he will probably be very confused.

  2. Your insurance is based on where you live...my rates changed when i just moved from one county to another

  3. no, the insurance has to be in the same state as the registration.  Well, at least in New Jersey and Pennsylvania...

If you are trying to get cheaper insurance by insuring it in a different state, that would be considered insurance fraud, so be careful.

  4. Most insurance companies do business in more than one state. When you buy insurance you have to give them your address and the details of the car registration. If they can insure your car, they will give you a policy that complies with your state's law. If you're trying to save money by taking advantage of differences in state laws, I don't think it will work.
