Question:

PA vs NP to 1st assist in surgery?

I am confused about being a NP and a PA, they seem similar. It seems you can only choose from like 1 of 5 paths as a NP. I want to do surgery, so I would acnp. Yet from just browsing it seems like Pa's do more surgery. The degree itself seems pretty general but I saw they have residencies that are specificially designed for certian surgeries. So, if I want to be a first assistant in surgery which is the better path?

  1. If you truly want to do surgery, become a PA. A surgical rotation is required for ALL PAs. Plus there are post-grad residencies as you mentioned.

I trained before there were residencies, so it was good old fashioned on the job training.

    Good luck.
