PAC-10 week six: Preview
Week six in the Pacific Coast Conference will feature another week of conference play. The PAC-10 is slowly becoming one of the most competitive conferences in the country and for that reason nearly every game this week has a ranking on the line.
UCLA @ California
UCLA’s 2010 campaign has been a tale of two seasons. The first part of the season was dreadful, as they suffered two straight losses to Kansas State and Stanford. However, in their last three games the Bruins have put together strong performances, defeating
Houston, Texas and last week Washington State. The strong play earned UCLA votes for the AP Top 25 this week.
California has not been able to find their game so far this season, with losses to then #14 Arizona and Nevada over the past two weeks. Nevertheless, the Golden Bears have an opportunity to get back on track at home against a conference opponent this weekend.
#3 Oregon @ Washington State
Oregon showed why they are considered one of the best teams in the country with a convincing 52-31 win over Stanford, last week. Going up against a dismal Washington State side the Ducks should be able to post a third straight week of over 600 yards on offence.
Washington State has only managed one win this season and it was over Montana State. The Cougars have not been able to find their game this season and it will only get harder over the next three weeks as they take on #3 Oregon, #9 Arizona and #16 Stanford.
Oregon State @ Arizona
Oregon State had high hopes before the season started, as they were placed among the Top 25 teams in the country. However, losses to TCU and Boise State in weeks one and three confirmed the Beavers were unable to compete against top rate talent in 2010.
Arizona was able to force their way into the Top 25 with a win over Iowa. The Wildcats have played strong football this season, currently sitting at 4-0 and should be able to muscle past Oregon State on Saturday.
USC @ #16 Stanford
USC was forced out of the rankings after losing by one point to Washington last week. The Trojans will be eager to prove they belong in the Top 25 with a win over Stanford this weekend.
Stanford were embarrassed by a much better Oregon side last week and dropped from 9th to 16th in the rankings because of it. The Cardinals will be keen to get back on track with a win over a desperate USC side.
Arizona State @ Washington
Arizona State has suffered three losses this season, all of which were against strong teams. The Sun Devils will be out to prove they are among the better teams in the PAC-10. Arizona has a very strong passing game, which they will hope to use against a
weak Washington defence.
The Huskies were considered an underdog heading into the 2010 campaign. However, the Huskies have not been impressive enough to be considered a true contender this season. Nevertheless, Washington will have a great opportunity to add to their 1-0 record
against conference opponents this weekend.
