  1. Yes, you can. Either stain or outdoor paint. You can also leave it bare.


  2. A lot of people choose to stain cedar because of its beauty and because of some of the hassles associated with painting it. But technically you can paint it right after buying it. Letting it dry out for a couple of months is the best way and is preferable. But if you decide to paint it right away get some 'cover stain' by zinsser and coat the cedar with 1 to 2 coats before you put on the top coat of paint. That way the natural stain/resins that is in the wood will lock into the primer. Preventing it from coming through the finish coat. You can also tint the primer to match the top coat for better hiding. When you paint it use a good quality 100% acrylic paint.

  3. Yes, but usually the reason you buy cedar is to stain it....
