PARENTS: Would you be hurt if you felt your kid couldn't go to you?

Absolutely! I want my kids to be able to tell me anything they want and know that I will help them if they need it. i tell them all the time that there isn't anything they can't come to me with.

I don't know that I'd feel hurt as much as I would feel that I hadn't done my job as a parent all that well.  I think that part of my job is making sure that my kids know they can talk to me by actually talking to them often.

I'd be devastated, but I think that's part of being a kid. The best you can do is to tell them sincerely that there is nothing they can't tell you, however horrible it is, that would make you stop loving them. Then do everything in your power to be loving and understanding when they do tell you things. I don't mean reward them for bad choices, just think before you speak or act. Parenthood is a tough job and you have to learn as you go, the fact that you are upset about this shows that you are doing the best you can and I think you should be proud and give yourself a break.
