  1. No, I do not think that ADHD means anything in regards to intelligence. ADHD may have a negative impact on cognitive growth (not always, if it is diagnosed, the risk of  missing out on important information is lowered greatly) and sometimes a child may be diagnosed with ADHD when they are just bored in class because they know the things being taught already. But, aside from that I feel that ADHD and intelligence are two very different things that can not be compared to each other.

  2. No...I believe it is a sign of Too many Chemicals, Hormones and Artificial Sweetners used in EVERYTHING...Add a Diet Rich in Mcdonalds and other Fast-Food, WAY too much White Sugar and Voila...ADHD

  3. It's not a sign of genius.  Plenty of genius' have had it, but plenty of regular Joes and plain out bums have had it too.  Kids with ADHD who can channel all of their energy into something they're passionate about definitely have an advantage over regular folks I think, but there are plenty of drawbacks to all of the distractions inherent in ADHD as well.

  4. Well, I am sure there have been before, i dont think with every case that is true.

i have a 5 yr old daughter who is Adhd, who I choose to homeschool because I will not allow her to go on the meds for the adhd meds. the contain horrible things that can hurt kids, Like siezures, tourettes, heart attacks. i choose to homeschool her because they said they wouldnt allow her at school with adhd.

Anyways, it is hard somewhat homeschooling her. She is hard to get calmed down, but once she is calm she is very very smart I notice.

She is smarter than most kids her age.

I am not sure if its running in the family, but,

my 6 yr old daughter who is in the 1st grade this year, is actually in the 2nd grade, she has beening adding subtracting, since she was 4 1/2..Shes been reading on a 2nd grade level since she was 5.

    She is not adhd.

  5. well i aint a parent but i have a brother nd nefew with adhd nd they dont look like genius to me :p lol....they just have a lot of energy...nd need to take something for it. so they can focus a bit more

  6. Nope.  I believe it's a sign of a child who needs discipline.

  7. It's so over diagnosed that not everybody can be a genius. It's basically a way for parents and teachers to throw their hands in the air and give the kid a pill. Now, I do realize that there are def. kids who have but not as many as are diagnosed with it.

  8. No, it's not.  Like with autism, many people with ADHD have extremely high intelligence.  However, that doesn't make it a sign of intelligence.

  9. No, but their minds do race more so there for they have more random thoughts but unless they practice writing down those thoughts then they forget them anyways.  I think we can all look at people like Tom Cruise and see that ADHD doesn't mean being a genius.  I do think that people that are labeled as a genius do have mental disorders though.  If you look at all those famous that were so smart they all had things about them, many with mental disorders including biopolar disorder and autism and stuff like that.

  10. I'm not a parent but a sibling of someone who has severe ADHD.

    The answer is NO.

    ADHD is NOT like Autism.

It just means that they have too much energy to be able to control it themselves.

  11. First off to those who say it is a sign of a child who needs discipline... you are ignorant.

To answer the question... I don't believe they are genius'.  I have a son who has ADHD and have worked with many who have it and I sincerely believe that they have a higher capable intelligence than a child without it.  The reason being that it has been proven that as a 'coping' mechanism ADD and ADHD children access parts of the brain that 'normal' children do not giving them the ability to process information in ways that grant them higher intelligence.  I have seen kids (properly medicated, not for behaviour but for focusing ability) with ADHD and without take the same test and the properly medicated ADHD child will score higher on questions requiring in depth thought processes.

Now, that doesn't mean that you don't have your kids out there who are 'normal' who can score just as high.  But it has been proven time and time again that ADHD kids are highly intelligent and can process complex thoughts better than 'normal' kids their own age.

You ask what I think and that is my honest opinion and that is what I gave just like every other person on here.  So, lol, I don't need any nasty comments from those who disbelieve in ADHD.  Just be careful how you judge, lol... I was right with you all and then I had a child with it.  After thousands of dollars, specialists, neurologists, psychiatrists, psycologists, all the 'ists', lol.... we decided to medicate and now I have a child who is in the top of his class in a private school with advanced curriculem on the honor roll and I am in awe of how easily it all comes to him.

I hope this gave a different perspective for you!!  Good Question!!!  :)

  12. its funny you say that. my foster son has ADD. and when i got him a 3 he could not speak. but after a few months of love and food, he came out and started talking. and now at 6, he does things like. oh ya i am named nick because my aunt chrystal has a son named nick. (what he has not seen them in years. or he will say remember when we got the oil changed on the car and you had a pepsi and i had orange soda. THAT WAS 2 YEARS AGO. and in detail. but ask him how to write his name and he cant. ?? or it took him years to learn to count or colors. but ask him about 3 years ago when we went to dinner he can remember what we got. he is on meds now, which helps, but he will still every now and then bring up something off the wall.

  13. While it may not be true for all people with adhd, I believe that there are those who definitely have a gift being overshadowed by this difference. Most children with adhd are average to above average in intelligence. I am sure there are those who are in the superior range as well.

  14. Umm no. The reason being is that in my life I have had friends with ADHD and no offense but the people I knew were obviously idiots. Not saying all are, but the people I knew who had it were far from genius material.
