  1. It's just another stage of kids trying to fit into a class, just like  Goth, or Grunge.  Heck, I was grunge before it even had a name, back in the 1970's when I was in high school.

However, if the child is cutting or showing signs of depression, I would be concerned and would and have intervened with my own family.

  2. im not a parent but i wanted to answer, if i was no i wouldnt b concerned it is a style, i would only b if they were cutting..........

  3. Okay, so assuming that it is purely the look, and I am 100% positive that my child is depressed or engaged in any destructive behaviors (ie, cutting) then of course.

The way a person dresses is a form of self expression. Just like I always feel better when I have all of my earrings in, or I'm wearing the perfect outfit that is completely me, or I've just dyed my hair burgundy and red, other people deserve to dress the way they feel as well. That includes my kids.

In my family, we were always allowed to dress as we pleased (assuming it was legal and followed the dress code of wherever we would be, all of the vital body parts were covered etc.) and I plan on doing the same with my children.

  4. Well I'm not a parent (I'm 14!)

Stereotyping is so wrong. I don't judge people on what they wear. If I were a mum, I'd be concerned if my child was cutting.

Emo is a music genre. I wouldn't be concerned if my child was wearing makeup, skinny jeans, converses, vans..you know all that. I'd actually be happy that she has his/her own style. But if they started cutting...well that's a different story. But i would be really concerned if she dressed like a s**t and slept with like 6 men in one night.

  5. i dont think it would bother me...because i was into that sean once and changed my mind like a yr. later and  if thats what my son wants to wear then ill let him wear it he has to be his on person!!!

  6. As long as they weren't writing death poetry or cutting themselves.

Wearing black clothes and skinny pants? Why should I care?

  7. My husband and I were recently discussing this.  Although we believe in allowing our children a freedom of expression, I can't honestly say I'd be OK with letting my teenage sons wear guy-liner and black lipstick.  You know what I mean?  If they want to wear the black clothes and things like that, fine, whatever.  There will be limits though.  I'm not gonna buy the make-up, the hair dye, the piercings and things like that.  I just don't think its appropriate.  There are other ways of expressing yourself.  I won't let my daughter wear gobs of make-up and dress like a s**t, so I'm not gonna let the guys get away with silly stuff like that either.  Of course, my children are all still toddlers.  Perhaps I'll feel differently when that time comes.

*Sorry.  25 year old mother of toddlers here.  I can honestly say I'm not an expert in the stylings of teenage boys, let alone "emo" styles.

  8. my mom say no she says i have a good head on my shoulder and it is my choice to dress or listen to whomever i like or love.

  9. Well, I hate labels, so no. And actually what you would consider "emo", doesn't exist. It was created as a music and should have stayed just a genre of music. But anyway, I think it's wrong to stop a kid from expressing themselves and not letting them wear what they want, and if you mean by the kid shopping at Hot Topic, no. I shop there and by all my slothes there, people think its all scary and everything but half the people have never been in the store, so they wouldn't know. They're just labeling it by 1/4 of the people who shop there. But anyway, my mom buys me stuff from there, but I would be concerned if they were cutting themselves, but please don't stereotypes, it's wrong and stupid. How would you feel if somebody saw you and looked at your clothes and completely hated you for no reason?

  10. well, my parents are concerned. but I'm not emo. i guess you could say I'm goth. but i tell people I'm different. because i am. its nothing to worry about. my personality didn't change  just because my wardrobe did. i wouldn't be concerned, and i plan on letting my kids express themselves, and my parents do too, but they were hesitant.

  11. You shouldnt be concerned, you should let your child be who they want to be, love them for who they are not how they dress

If theres any parents that have a problem with it then they're probaly not a very good parent at all

    Its just clothes

  12. i'm now 23, but was big into that scene as a younger kid. my husband and i currently own and operate a record label and are around emo/scene kids ALL THE TIME. while it is funny now, looking back, to think we used to think it was necessary to dress up to be cool, i really don't think its something to worry about. in fact, a big scene movement is the Straight Edge movement (no drugs/alcohol). i'd say that as long as you know your child and they aren't displaying any signs of drug use or major changes, that it is absolutely nothing to worry about! offter to drive them to shows, get to know their friends. be in their lives!!

    let them express themselves!

  13. I'd be more concerned if they started wearing those hoochie clothes from hollister and A and F and AE.

  14. well my mom is concerned that I listen to metal...so I'd say my parents definitely would be (are) worried about that. I also hate labels, they're nothing but excuses to discriminate.

  15. yes

  16. I would rather have my son wearing tight jeans and eyeliner than having him wear a gun in his pants.

Remember, there can always be worse.

  17. I would let my child dress emo if they were getting good grades and were responsible.

  18. It's a helluva lot better then dressing like a goddamn hooker, like a lot of girls my age.

  19. my mom actually encourages me to shop at hot topic.

    lol.

i dont exactly think im scemo cause i hate labeling myself but thats the main place i shop

so my parents wouldnt really care if i went over the top scemo xP

  20. I'd be fine with it.
