PART 1- World Series Final: St. Louis Cardinals vs. Texas Rangers
This is a series of round-ups of the best-of-seven games World Series Final played between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Texas Rangers. It briefly covers the playoffs the two teams played, along with the exciting games contested between the two squads.
It was clash of the titans. The St. Louis Cardinals had beaten teams like the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers to earn the right to battle the Texas Rangers in the World Series final. The Rangers, on the other hand, had trounced the Tampa Bay
Rays and the Detroit Tigers to confront the Cardinals in the best-of-seven games.
The Tampa Bay Rays were unbeatable when the Texas Rangers came to play the first game of the playoffs at Arlington. Rays won the Game 1 by 9-0. Such a scintillating victory for the Rays amounted to great dislodge the Rangers, psychologically. Despite the
scare, the team made a comeback with 8-6 victory in Game 2, 4-3 win in Game 3 and a complete 4-3 victory in Game 4, winning the Series by 3-1.
The seven-game playoff against the Detroit Tigers were challenging once again. The Rangers, nonetheless, prevailed at the end as it won the Game 1 by 3-2 only to win the second one more comfortably with 7-3. The Tigers put a tough resistance in Game 3 with
a 5-2 victory but the Rangers made their comeback with a 7-3 win.
Nonetheless, the Rangers managed to win the last game by 15-5; too imposing a victory to be erased from the memory; which also struck a note of how far could the Rangers go to win.
Texas Rangers manager, Ron Washington said. “We wanted to get to the World Series. But the bottom line is getting to the World Series and winning it. We feel pretty confident about ourselves. More than anything else, the commitment they made in November
after San Francisco sent us home, they held true to it.”
Compared to that, the Cardinals beat the Philadelphia Phillies by 3-2 in the best-of-five games. The Cardinals then moved forward to beat the Milwaukee Brewers by 4-2 in the series.
It was such a nerve-racking experience for the Rangers. Anyone with a modicum of interest and understanding of the game could accurately predict that it would be some of the most thrilling games of baseball; so they turned out to be. The ultimate winner,
therefore, would be the one which had the nerve and composure to sustain pressure and exert itself when needed.
In a battle that took more than emotions to prevail, it was the effectively chalked out strategy of the St. Louis Cardinals, with some breathtaking manoeuvres, that helped the team win the World Series by 4-2.
