PART 4: Rangers take on the St. Louis Cardinals
Losing Game 2 was something that the St. Louis Cardinals did not seem to reconcile with quite easily. As the Game 3 kicked off, the Cardinals had come with an altogether different outlook. Their return was an incredible one for the Texas Rangers. The Cardinals
won Game 3 with a stunning 16-7 victory.
That smashing win would not be possible with Albert Pujols’ history-making and series-changing performance. The Texas Rangers might not have anticipated this. Pujols smashed three mega homers with gleaning six invaluable runs – which he called ‘special,
for the St. Louis Cardinals’.
For Pujols, it was such a feat that he would never be able to forget. Deservingly so, as he was simply majestic in what he executed in the game. “Hopefully, at the end of my career, I can look back and say, Wow, what a game it was in Game 3 in 2011,” Pujols
said.
While Kyle Lohse of the Cardinals barely allowed 3 runs with Fernando Salas allowing 4, Matt Harrison of the Texas Rangers would not be able to do what he was expected to do in the game. In his 3.2 innings, the Rangers starter gave up 5 runs, allowing six
hits with Scott Feldman giving up 3 runs in 1.1 innings. Alexi Ogando, the otherwise unplayable pitcher of the Rangers, gave up 4 runs in less than an inning with 27.0 ERA as Mike Gonzalez allowed 2 runs.
Pujols’ performance was one that even the rivals would praise. The Texas Rangers manager, Ron Washington, had nothing but compliments for this performance of the St. Louis Cardinals slugger at the end.
“When the opportunity presents itself to put him on the bag, I'm not going to let him swing the bat,” Texas manager, Ron Washington said. “But tonight, we just couldn't get the ball out of the middle of the plate and up, and he just didn't miss. I saw him
on TV but I'll tell you, tonight was something special.”
With such a glorious win to their credit, the Cardinals would enter Game 4 with renewed confidence, hoping they would prevail the way it did in the Game 3. However, much had to change when Game 4 kicked off at Arlington, as the Rangers came up with more
confidence and composure.
