  2. Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri

    The perfect drink for a hot summer day, a virgin daiquiri (strawberry or whatever fruit suits your fancy) is tangy and thirst-quenching. Plus, because it's fruit-flavored and blended, you're less likely to notice the missing alcohol. Go for fresh strawberries over frozen; the flavor will be much better.

    Ingredients:

    1 ounce fresh lime juice

    3 ounces frozen strawberries in syrup (or fresh, if available)

    1 teaspoon sugar

    Cracked ice

    Preparation:

    Fill a blender with cracked ice. Add lime juice, strawberries, and sugar. Blend until smooth, then pour into a chilled glass. Garnish with an extra strawberry (if you have one) or an orange slice.

    White Sangria

    This refreshing and tasty recipe is perfect for your next dinner party, or just whip up a pitcher to have on hand whenever you need a bubbly beverage break.

    Ingredients:

    4 cups white grape juice

    1 cup pink grapefruit juice

    1 tablespoon lime juice

    1 bottle club soda (750 milliliters)

    Pink grapefruit slices

    Preparation

    In a large pitcher, combine all three juices. Refrigerate. Just before serving, add the soda water and grapefruit slices (and other fruit, if you'd like). Makes about 12 servings.

    & pizza

    Prep Time: 20 minutes

    Cook Time: 10 minutes

    Ingredients:

        * 3 cups flour

        * 1 cup yellow cornmeal

        * 1 pkg. active dry yeast

        * 1 tsp. salt

        * 3 Tbsp. vegetable oil

        * 1-1/3 cups warm water

        * 1/4 cup cornmeal

    Preparation:

    In large bowl, combine 1 cup of the flour, 1 cup cornmeal, the yeast and salt. Stir in vegetable oil and water and mix well. Add remaining flour and mix until a stiff dough forms. Turn out onto lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes. Place in greased bowl, turning to grease top, and let rise for 1-1/2 hours, until doubled. Punch down.

    For two large pizzas: divide dough into two balls. Grease two large cookie sheets with vegetable shortening, and dust each with 2 Tbsp. cornmeal. Roll out each ball on each cookie sheet until crust is 1/8" thick. Just cover the sheets, and don't worry about the crust being perfectly rectangle. Set aside while preparing sauce.

    For individual pizzas: divide dough into 8 balls and roll out into 6-8" circles.

    Bake crusts without toppings at 400 degrees for 10 minutes. You can store them at room temperature for 2 days, or freeze for longer storage. Then when you want to eat, add your favorite toppings and bake at 400 degrees for 15-30 minutes (depending on the size) until crust is golden brown and toppings are heated. Serves 10

  3. For a poolside party in the summer I'd say go for finger foods! It's your birthday, and ritzy resort or not, you should have it your way. Just think of what your favourite party nibblers are.. a lot of people like shrimp and it's classier than say cocktail wieners or crackers! Your guests will LIKE familiar foods, and if you go for more mature/fancy foods, it's a possibility that they just won't get eaten or that people won't like them.

    For drinks.. if I'm having mocktails when I'm out, I go for virgin strawberry daquiris (they're delicious & if it's hot outside your guests will enjoy them because they're really cold!).

    There's the classic party punch of course, and at my 18th birthday I made mocktails I found online, here's a good link: http://www.lcbo.com/socialresponsibility...

    One of my friends had a pool in her backyard and her parents bought a ton of glowsticks for us to have in the pool, we threw them to the bottom and wore them while we were swimming and stuff. A few years later the same friend had floating candles in her pool! It looked beautiful :)

    When we used to swim at her place we'd always play dodgeball in the pool with someone on the outside that had a ball going after all the swimmers in the pool. And things like keep away and tag obviously.

    But yeah, usually games just sorta happen in the pool! Make sure you have some music, and no matter how old you are, someone might just start up a game of Marco Polo.

    If no one swims, if you've got the music you guys could always just start dancing too! Usually big clubs have open spaces near the pool anyway.
