  1. As long as there is no green on the skin. Green means there is solanine, which can be toxic if eaten in quantity. Other than that you're better off eating the skin it has more nutrients than the meat of the potato.

  2. The skins are very healthy.  Most of the vitamins and minerals in potatoes are just under the skin, so eating them gets you the most nutrition and fiber.  Yes, the body can digest them.  Just wash well w/ soap and water before cooking.

  3. You can eat them. Like when you eat roast potaotes the skin is still on the outside.

So i think its ok, are they cooked at least?

  4. As long as they are cooked.

Most of the goodness of a potato is in the skin.

  5. yeah you can eat them.

    just wash them of first.

  6. Actually they are really healthy for you but it is all the stuff you put on them that makes them bad ~ you know the cheese, sour cream, bacon

Just wash, cook the way you like and eat

  7. course you can never heard of jacket potatoe?? Baby new ones covered in butter, fried potato skins???

  8. You can only eat them if they're a normal potato color. LIke if you get one with a greenish tinge, you shouldn't eat them. They won't kill you, but they're are mildly toxic, so it's better to avoid eating the green parts.

But yes, if they're not green, they're great to eat. When my mother peels potatos, i usually take the skins and deep fry them. They're like chips, only better.

I almost never peel potatos at home. If i'm making french fries, or chips, or homefries or potato salad, I always leave the skins on. I don't even always take them off ofr mashed potatos.

The skins is where all the nutrients are. If you're just eating the inside of the potato, you're pretty much only eating carbs. Carbs are great and all, but they're better if you can get soem vitamins and fiber at the same time.

  9. I presume you are talking about baking them in the oven? Jacket spuds?

Yes, that is where all the fibre is in the potato!  Eat and enjoy, wonderful dripping in butter!

    :)

  10. It's only your body type but i've only heard stuff with cucumber skins.

  11. yes you can, the skin is very good for you

  12. The potatoe skins are the the healthiest for you.

  13. You can eat them. They probably aren't that good for you though- nothing is! ;-)

  14. Yes, you can eat them.

  15. In the old days, potato skins where peeled prior to cooking with the idea that they would be cleaner and therefore healthier. Fortunately for the people who had the tedious job of peeling potato skins, removing them is not only unnecessary, but also may be detrimental, as leaving the potato skins intact is very nutritious.

Potato skins store many nutrients and also contain a lot of fiber which is essential for a healthy diet. Leaving the potato skins on the potato also helps contain the nutrients in the flesh of the potato which has a tendency to escape during cooking. Based on a 2000 calorie diet, a large baked potato, including the skin, has 278 calories. Only 3 of these calories are from fat. The baked potato contains only 1% of the fat allowance considered as part of a healthy diet, with 0% of this being saturated fat.

The potato, as well as the potato skin, is a great source of vitamin C, vitamin B6, copper, potassium, manganese, and dietary fiber. Potatoes and potato skins contain 18% of the recommended daily allowance of iron and 7.5 grams of protein which is rarely found in vegetables in such high concentrations. Potato skins also contain a variety of phytonutrients which are a natural source of antioxidants that help to prevent cellular deterioration of the body. The phytonutrients found in the potato skins as well as the flesh include carotenoids, flavonoids, and caffeic acid.

Potatoes are classified as a tuber, meaning bulb or root, which contains a protein called patatin specific to these types of vegetables. Patatin also works as an effective antioxidant as well as lowering blood pressure. Overall, potato skins help to provide protection against heart disease and cancer.

There are numerous delicious ways to prepare potato skins. However, in the United States they are mainly eaten in unhealthy ways; for example, greasy French fries, baked potatoes loaded with butter and sour cream, and potato skins alone piled high with cheese and bacon. These condiments are usually high in saturated fats which are known to contribute to heart disease combating the protection the potato itself offers. Healthier alternatives to the fatty flavorings commonly placed on potato skins include hummus, onions, butter alternatives and many more.

A word of caution: today's potato crops receive an extremely high amount of chemicals to protect them from pests and disease. These chemical pesticides can be concentrated in the potato skins as well as the flesh. The health benefits of potato skins can be negated by the use of these chemicals which are proven to be unhealthy for human consumption. To reap the benefits of your potato skins you should look for organically grown potatoes.
