Question:

PBS, The WAR. Could America's production again meet the demands. Could we sacrifice like Americans of WWII?

US now buys ammo from Taiwan. They already raiesd the price and were going to cut off shipments. Does a globalized defense industry make sense? Could we tolerate hundreds of thousands of dead and wounded in a Just War?

  2. America has been at war for 6 years.  We've been at war in two countries for 4 1/2 years.

In that time, we have maintained war production and an all volunteer military while cutting taxes.  That's pretty impressive.  Yes, we could seriously ramp up production and the size of the military if necessary.

We have very deep reserves in this.  The only challenge we've faced is a lack of resolve by our citizens which have felt no pain from this war.  They continue their lives in much the same way they did in 2000.

Perhaps if the threat were greater, the media would quit misportraying our successes and efforts.  Perhaps ALL politicians would support the mission rather than have so many trying to play the sympathies of our citizens to gain some votes and seats.

  3. I think Americans will generally suck it up and take care of business, when they have to. If faced with the production needs of WWII, we wouldn't have to shut down any auto factories to build airplanes, we'd only have to reopen the ones that have moved to Mexico and South America!

  4. This war has been a sham since its concept.  This is the first time ever that we had a war and tax cuts at the same time.  There is no sacrifice and therefore no one feels the pain.  In WWII Americans all pitched into the war effort.  GM was building tanks and the economy was in great shape.  Now we outsource.

  5. Without a doubt.

  6. Absolutely we could and then some. Recycling, conversion of auto-makers’ plants to mass produce weapons of war etc.

That is a great production by the way. Very informative.

If it came down to it I know the American people can unite to fight in a Just War, we can handle the casualties if our homeland is truly threatened by a perceivable enemy. That is our biggest problem right now, our enemy is too vague… this is a different kind of war.

  7. Americans have become interested only in their MTV culture.

We seem to have no tolerance for inconvenience. Also we do not have any common sense.
