PBSI officials believe their shuttlers will make the best out of London Olympics
It seems the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) has complete faith in its shuttlers as its officials hoped that the national players will raise country’s flag in London Olympics starting from July 28, 2012.
PBSI is taking all steps to elevate country’s chances for the glory and they have decided to send its shuttlers to London a weak before the mega event just to provide them a good practice run in Olympic conditions.
The secretary-general of PBSI, Yacob Rusdianto admitted that they are hoping their shuttlers will bring the crown back home even in the presence of a super power (China). He believes they stand a fair chance if they utilise their brilliance in the game.
Yacob said, “The chance for Indonesia to win at the Olympics is wide open. Being world No. 1 does not mean you automatically win the Olympics.”
Indonesia will be looking towards seasoned Men’s Singles shuttlers Taufik Hidayat and Simon Santoso as they both are ranked in top 16 shuttlers of the World while male partners Mohammad Ahsan and Bona Septano will be the biggest hope in the Men’ Doubles
event.
Meanwhile, the duo Greysia Polii–Meiliana Jauhari and Tontowi Ahmad–Liliyana Natsir will be representing the country in Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles events respectively.
However, there is a nail-biting contest between the Women’s Singles experts Maria Febe Kusumastuti, Adrianti Firdasari and Aprilia Yuswandari to secure a spot in the mega event.
PBSI athletic development chief Hadi Nasri thinks the Indonesians will cement their spot in Olympics before its qualification period ends as they are scheduled to participate in two tournaments in April.
He said, "Our athletes still have to compete at the Asia Championship in China as well as India Super Series to ensure that they indeed get the tickets to London."
The PBSI secretary-general Yacob Rusdianto feels their shuttlers will have a great practice run before the London Olympics as they are also competing Thomas and Uber Cup finals. However he did not disclose the national squad for these prestigious team events.
The Association has also provided Indonesian shuttlers with sparring partners, psychologists, nutritionists and physicians to switch on the best in them for the 2012 London Olympics.
