Question:

PC Fan configuration?

I have two computers housed in one case. Nothing is overclocked, but it contains(between the two) 7 hard drives, 8 gigs ram, two AMD Quad Core proccessors, 3 video cards, and 4 1000w power supplies. The case I have designed is set up for 7 total intake fans: 6 120mm fans in the front, and one 250mm fan on the left side. 11 total exhaust fans: 3 120mm on top, 3 120mm in the back, 4 80mm in the back and one 250mm on the right side. I have the CFM balanced out between the intake and exhaust, to where it replaced the air in the case every second.

I know there are flaws with this. I have read a lot and there seems to be a lot of argument about how fans should be placed. Could someone offer me advice or help me out. Do fans reach a point we're its pointless to have over a certain number of fans? Any advice is appreciated thank you

  1. i need the answer also...

    btw, your machine is awesome!

  2. Regarding fan placement I try to place my intake fans so that they blow cool air straight onto components that I know will get hot (e.g. cpu, graphics card, motherboard and hard drives). Once the computer is running I'll use a program like 'speedfan' or 'everest' to check the temps of those components to make sure it's all nice and cool.

Doing it this way means I use less exhaust fans. I've never had a problem with overheating components, even when overclocking.

  3. I think you like to buy fans. You reached it-the pointless state of tooo many fans.

You should have more CFM going out then in-you need a air flow in the out direction. The balance of CFM is not the best thing.Getting the hot air out is your object, where your CPU fans just swirl the air around.

    But that is my opinion.

  4. What about thinking of WaterCooled?
