PC Upgrade Help Please?

Should I:

1) - Keep my existing motherboard, using ddr ram and gp graphics card

or

2) - buy a new motherboard, using existing hard drive, disk drive, ddr 2 ram and pci-e graphics card but have complications connecting the old ide components.

I want to choose option 2 but i would have to lose card readers and other components that I rather like.

Any advice?

Thanks

  1. i u are a gamers, you should buy new motherboard, CPU , graphic card because these are very important to play game

keep the rest are old but not bad to run games

  2. what are these "other" components?

Chances are, your card readers are on a standard USB header.  Take a look.  You should already be able to identify this.

You won't be upgrading much if you don't upgrade your processor and RAM.  You won;t have a problem with IDE connections if you actually pay attention to what you buy and purchase a mobo with IDE and SATA connections.  If you are planning on using more than 2 IDE devices, then make sure you get a board with primary and secondary IDE.  It is that simple.

  4. if its an upgrade do it, ddr2 is ALOT cheaper than ddr ram, and if its an all round better pc, then whatve u got to lose?

  5. Option 2 is fine, i don't understand why you would have issues connecting a card reader, they tend to be USB?

If you're upgrading your PC the idea is usually to increase performance, go for option 2 and enjoy your new PC.

If you must have slow, old IDE parts connected, look into a PCI add on card for adding IDE connectors.

IDE may be long in the tooth now, but every motherboard I have used in building new PC's (i am a systems builder) come with one IDE port minimum, therefore allowing connection of at least 2 IDE devices.

    hope this helps?
