Question:

PC does not recognize blank disc in DVD/CD-RW drive?

I have an HP Pavilion a1230n and the person who owned it before me installed Vista on it. Now I have to find a new driver for EVERYTHING, but I can't seem to find one for this DVD/CD-RW drive, even on the HP website. When I put a blank CD in the drive, the computer does not recognize it. If I have to replace the drive because it's not compatible w/ Vista, I'm downgrading to XP. That will be the last straw. Does anyone know where there is a Vista driver for that DVD/CD-RW drive?

stay away from vista it is no good and also it takes alot of memeory to run it

  2. Is your disk -R/RW or +R/RW?  I'm not sure how much difference that might make. but a possibility.

I've had that problem with some disks I have, I  tried putting another disk from the same pack in, and it works.  I'm not sure what the problem is, but try additional disks.

  3. You do not need drivers for your CD/DVD drive, they come with Vista. Vista is a far better OS than XP. Don't listen to those who don't understand all of its huge improvements over XP. Vista is nearly crash proof, much more versatile, far more advanced in security, and is still in its infancy. When XP was this age it was a total mess, and everyone hated it in a big way. People forget how much they hated XP because it spent too much time live. Give Vista a chance and you may be pleasantly surprised at how good it really is, especially once you get used to the new interface. Plus, you may as well get used to Vista now because there isn't any going back. Microsoft has stopped selling retail copies of XP, and soon there will not be any PCs with XP installed, only Vista. XP is old hate, and is retired. Service will continue for XP until '09, and then it will only receive critical and security updates, it will not be supported any longer. Windows 7 will be out some time next year too.

  4. Sarah, The drive doesnt need drivers, they are all native to Windows, meaning all built-in.

If it doesnt work, it could be faulty , or the Vista installation is damaged so the CD portion no longer works
