PC stuck on 640 x 480 and 16 bit?

I'm on my old PC, which I use to play The Sims, but I can't play because my screen is stuck on resolution 640 x 480 and 16 bit color. I've had this problem before, but it was a few years ago. The slider doesn't move, and these are the only choices. I have a Dell Dimension 2400. I tried going to Intel's site and downloading the correct drivers, but each time I try, an error comes up saying "Required files are missing" .. or something along the lines of that.

  1. If your resolution is stuck then its your graphic card driver, nothing to do with Dell.

Right click on My Computer and click Manage.  Go to Device Manager and expand Display Adapter.  Double Click on your graphics card listed and click the driver tab at the top of the window.  Then click on Update Driver.

If this doesn't work, you can try clicking on Roll Back Driver which will take you back to the previous Driver setting when it did work.

  2. system restore if it wont install drivers are about your only hope

  3. Why are you downloading drivers from Intel? Try going to Dell.com and grab all the drivers for your exact machine. If you can find your Dell Service Tag # on the machine, even better.
